Showcards: IMG Models Australia – MBFWA SS 14/15

Who will rule the runways of MBFWA? Part I of Frockwriter's model showcard series for SS1415

And they’re off and running.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia commences on April 6th in Sydney.

First up in Frockwriter’s model showcard series for Spring/Summer 2014/2015  – IMG Models Australia.

Above is the full show pack, which includes a number of well-known Australian faces and a swag of newcomers, who have never previously set foot at the event.

Interesting to see that of the 52 names in this pack, only a handful hail from outside Australia and New Zealand. The internationals include Shin Hyun Ji from Korea – the niece of Korean Australian designer Yeojin Bae – also Yifan Zhang from China, Americans Kelly Gillespie and Fatima Said, Charlie Bredal from Denmark and Jade de Lavareille from Paris.

It remains to be seen which designers book which models, of course, but as far as diversity goes, this show pack does include a mix of ethnicities, from the Asian models to Said, Ajak Deng, Shanina Shaik and Shanali Martin, several girls with Pacific Islander heritage (including Jazmine Hikaka) and indigenous Australian newcomer Elle Brittain.

It is also worth noting how many of the IMG Models Australia pack have Next Top Model connections – and not just in Australia.

From Martin, Chanique Greyling and Abbie Weir, who made it onto Australia’s Next Top Model, to others such as Talisa Quirk and Nikita Steinorht, who auditioned but did not make it to the final cut of the local show. Then there is Said, who placed third on America’s Next Top Model Cycle 10 and Shin Hyun Ji, who won last year’s Cycle 4 of Korea’s Next Top Model.

Also of note, big buzz newcomers such as Madison Stubbington, who may be new to MBFWA’s runways but who nevertheless arrives straight from the Fall/Winter 2014/2015 runways, where she walked for, among others, Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton and our cover girl Abbie Heath, who is brand new to the runway.
