New faces: Georgie Perkins

And they’re off and running for 2014.

The Fall/Winter 2014/2015 menswear season commenced in London on Monday and already we have spied at least four Australian models on board there: Joel Meacock, Elija Tyedmers, Broed Dilleward and James Gatenby.

In a few weeks’ time the FW1415 womenswear season will commence in New York. And the new Aussie faces are already lining up, hopeful of an international kickoff during the month-long shows.

Meet 19 year-old Sydneysider Georgie Perkins, who was signed by Sydney’s eMg Models six months ago and next week heads straight to Milan ahead of the FW1415’s third leg there, after New York and London fashion weeks.

Perkins is so far on option for a Milan Fashion Week exclusive, which would be a great launch to her career.

To date she has essentially been in development in Sydney, with a very small portfolio of work that includes an upcoming spread in Catalogue magazine, shot by Daniel Gurton.

Perkins has a not-so-usual modelling background.

Born in the UK, she migrated to Australia at the age of five and grew up on a vast cattle station called Tomgina in Beaudesert, Queensland, where the family raises Droughmaster cattle – and school was an hour away each morning and evening by car.

With high school finally down and after being accepted into a Politics Law degree at Sydney University, she took a gap year off, during which she “couch surfed across Europe” she tells Frockwriter.

At 5’11”, no surprise to hear she was frequently stopped on the street in Europe by model scouts. Nothing came to fruition, but after returning to Australia and finally commencing – and completing – her first year of law studies at Sydney Uni in 2013, Perkins contacted eMg Models, which virtually signed her on the spot.

Perkins now wants to try her luck on the modelling circuit, with a view to continuing her studies at a later date. Julia Nobis, who is studying for a medical degree while modelling, is a personal idol she said.

“I want to experience something different from the law world, from the country world – it’s worlds away from all of it, it’s pretty exiting” said Perkins. “And just see where it goes”.

We look forward to tracking her journey.
