Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia is four weeks away.
This means, of course, model agencies around the country will be gearing up to promote their models to the 70+ designers who will be showcasing their wares at the event, which runs from April 6-10 at the Carriageworks venue.
Here is the schedule, which was released today by organisers IMG Fashion Asia Pacific.
Meet one brand new face who has just been signed by IMG’s new-ish Australian modelling division, who will be included in its MBFWA show pack – 19 year old Elle Brittain from Melbourne.
Scouted online within the last month by Brigette Mitchell from Adelaide’s Finesse Models, Brittain was signed to IMG Models Australia a fortnight ago.
A Melbourne makeup artist who had spotted Brittain sent some photos to Finesse Models via a private Facebook message, together with her contact details. Mitchell got in contact immediately.
With high profile models such as Lara Stone and Georgia May Jagger making gap teeth fashionable, Brittain, who is 5’9”, has a very contemporary look.
She also happens to be an indigenous Australian, which is interesting in light of the fact that the inaugural Australian Indigenous Fashion Week will be running immediately following MBFWA at the Sydney Town Hall on April 11th. As already reported by Frockwriter, over 20 indigenous Australian models will be working at that event, 18 of them recently scouted during a nationwide model search conducted with another agency, Chic Management.
Brittain joins a growing list of new indigenous modelling talent whose potential has been tapped by mainstream Australian model agencies. Repped by Chic Management, Samantha Harris – who is an official Australian Indigenous Fashion Week ambassador – is obviously top of that list and has been modelling for some time. Newer names include Charlee Fraser, Elina Moscheni and Martika Walford.
