Marc Jacobs cuts loose from his second Louis in a week

Marc-ing a new chapter, both professionally and personally

Marc Jacobs appears to be moving on to a new chapter in more ways than one – at least according to his self-proclaimed ex.

Three days after news broke that he would not be renewing his 16-year association with LVMH for the creative directorship of Louis Vuitton, Harry Louis, Jacobs’ boyfriend of two years, announced the couple is calling it quits.

Where was it announced? On Louis’ Twitter and Instagram feeds, of course.

On Saturday, Louis posted the following statement to Twitter/Instagram:

“So I would like to be the first one to share with you all the news… Me and Marc have decided not carry on with our relationship as boyfriends… The distance and lack of time because of work schedules aren’t really something realistic, and he’s such a beautiful and amazing person, that I think he deserve a bf who will stay at least in one of the cities that he leaves in… Also, I need that too… We love each other very much, and that it was a decision from both!!!! Every special minute we’ve spent together will be treasured, and a new chapter of our both lives has started… Both of us focusing in work, and make it work!!!! So, for those who were always supportive of us, please don’t be sad, live goes on, to all of us… And for those who were praying that this day were coming, there you have… Marc Jacobs and Harry Louis aren’t officially a couple anymore!!!!”

The rather spectacularly-endowed Louis – who at 25 is half Jacobs’ age – is a former Brazilian porn star. It takes all of two seconds to unearth his porn-oeuvre via Google Search.

Although extremely slow to make it to the mainstream media, the story of the Louis/Jacobs split was immediately picked up by the gay press. There has been no comment so far by Jacobs. Nor, one assumes, is there likely to be one. The standard line from the MJ camp on such matters is: “We don’t comment on Marc’s personal life”.

Louis and Jacobs first began dating in late 2011, approximately 18 months after Jacobs split with another Brazilian, Lorenzo Martone.

With Jacobs’ punishing schedule between work on his mooted soon-to-float namesake brand in New York and Louis Vuitton commitments in Paris, it must presumably have been difficult finding time for a personal life. Judging by photos on Louis’ social media feeds, it does not look like he was a live-in partner, certainly not in recent months. There are plenty of paparazzi photos of the pair enjoying vacations together – and judging by his Instagram, Louis was at the Louis Vuitton show last week (see photo, below), wearing an amusing Anna Wintour caricature T-shirt by Brazilian designer Laéllyo Mesquita – but you have to go back two months through Louis’ Instagram feed to find shots of them together.

Longdistance relationships are hard work, enough said.

Frockwriter is sure that there is absolutely no substance whatsoever to the highly salacious gossip that appears on Louis’ Instagram feed from a week ago, regarding the rumour that the at that stage yet-to-be-announced termination of Jacobs’ Louis Vuitton contract might not have been entirely voluntary. Back in June, WWD first reported that Jacobs was locked in discussions with LVMH about both his Louis Vuitton contract, which was due to expire at the end of 2013 and a potential IPO for the Marc Jacobs brand. In September, both France’s Challenges magazine and Reuters reported claims by industry sources that Jacobs’ contract would not be renewed.

Less potentially legally problematic are numerous Instagram shots of the former duo with Jacobs’ prized English bull terriers.

Although they do beg the question – will Louis now be filing for visitation rights for Daisy and Neville?
