Chanel Iman makes it an IMG supermodel trifecta at Flemington

A model race meet

The international models just keep on coming at Flemington.

Already this week during the Melbourne Cup Carnival we’ve seen Naomi Campbell and Coco Rocha on Derby Day, Kate Upton and Coco Rocha on Melbourne Cup Day and Rocha again at today’s Oaks Day. According to Ajak Deng’s Australian mother agency, FRM Management, Deng was also booked to appear at this year’s carnival, at the Swisse marquee, but those plans fell through when Swisse pulled out.

Frockwriter can reveal that Chanel Iman is going to be the VIP guest of Harris Scarfe on Saturday’s Stakes Day.

What’s the Harris Scarfe connection? The Adelaide-based department store chain has just unveiled a capsule fashion/homewares collection called Simply Vera Vera Wang and that’s which brand Iman will be rocking at Flemington.

The 24 year old African American/Korean Victoria’s Secret Angel and cover girl of, among other titles, Vogue, ELLE and i-D, makes it an IMG Models trifecta at Flemington. Both Iman and Upton are repped by IMG Models New York.

Although Campbell is not currently repped by IMG Models in New York, she has had a very longstanding, on-again, off-again relationship with the agency, which brokered the deal for Campbell to appear at the Lexus marquee – netting quite some publicity over the weekend:

Curvaceous Sports Illustrated and Vogue cover girl Upton, meanwhile, who was in Melbourne as the guest of Emirates and the Victorian Racing Club, was, we hear, a hit at the Newminster Stables at Werribee Racecourse on Monday shortly after touching down in Australia.

While many celebrities tend to be nervous around horses, Upton was a natural, cosying up to Melbourne Cup runner Voleuse de Coeurs in a pretty blue-and-white Oscar de la Renta cocktail dress, for a series of images that have since shot around the world.

No surprise, given that Upton grew up around horses and is herself a champion equestrienne who has competed for the American Paint Horse Association at a national level.

“The photographers said she was like a horse whisperer” said Upton’s manager Ivan Bart, IMG Models senior vice president and managing director, who is in Australia this week and also experienced his first Melbourne Cup Carnival.

On Twitter/Instagram, Bart noted how blown away he has been by all the Spring Racing madness that descends upon Melbourne, nay Australia, at this time of year – notably the Melbourne Cup itself, which is referred to down under as “The race that stops a nation”.

Bart told Frockwriter, “I’m a yankee in this town and I’m here learning about this culture and I felt the national pride”.
