Congratulations to Gemma Ward and her partner David Letts, who have welcomed a baby girl.

According to a report published by The West Australian newspaper, timestamped 5.30pm December 4, and quoting a Facebook comment from Ward's brother Oscar Ward - "I am officially an uncle" - but apparently since removed, the baby arrived yesterday and it's a girl, although it's not clear exactly where the baby was born.

The couple was recently photographed departing Australia for Hawaii where, it has been reported, the couple has family.

On December 3, Oscar's twin brother Henry posted a photo of a couple that looked like Ward and Letts to his Instagram feed. They were sitting on a  beach in a tropical location, looking out to sea. The caption reads:

"Waiting for the little one to arrive"

On the 18th and 19th November, New Zealand model Zippora Seven had also posted several photos of Ward and Letts in Kauai on Instagram, as part of a series of photos taken on Seven's brief holiday on the island, visiting sights such as the Kilauea Lighthouse and Na Pali Coast State Wilderness Park:

Although The West Australian did not clarify the source of the information that the baby is a girl, Frockwriter has since checked with the paper and according to a screen grab from Oscar Ward's Facebook page, a comment was left by another Ward family member yesterday, noting: "Mother and baby girl doing fine".

Earlier today, Ward's longtime friend, model Nicole Trunfio, posted a photo of Ward breastfeeding her new baby to Instagram and Facebook, together with the caption:

"Congratulations to my beautiful incredible friend @glouisew and her man @lettsy2106 for welcoming this little angel into the world!!!!"
From 2004-2007, Perth-born Ward was one of the fashion world's most in demand faces, shooting to the world number one spot in early 2007, before retiring from the business in 2008 to take some personal time and focus on acting. Earlier this year, she switched Australian 'mother' agencies, from Viviens to the newly-opened IMG Models Australia, in a concerted bid to revive her  modelling career. Those plans are on the backburner for now.

Letts is also a former model.

IMG Models Australia told Frockwriter:

"Although IMG doesn't comment on their client's personal life, we are so thrilled for Gemma and her new family and wish them well and much happiness".
Update 05/12/13 14.00: News Ltd is now reporting that the baby has been named Naia, although fails to cite a source. Derived from the name of a water nymph in ancient Greek mythology, Naia would be an interesting choice, given that Ward played a mermaid in the 2011 blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
