Amy Finlayson by Thom Kerr for Phoenix Keating SS14

Do the robot

Another week, another Thom Kerr preview.

This time it’s the Spring/Summer 2014 campaign for upwardly-mobile Sydney fashion designer Phoenix Keating.

Called 'Vaudevillian', the collection was shown last week at a small presentation in New York, where the ambitious 21 year-old has already tapped the services of a publicist, Ler PR. That’s in addition to Sydney’s Raw Fashion Agency.

While most fledgling Australian designers are scratching their asses trying to fund the next collection, Keating has already done multiple solo runway shows/presentations in Sydney, including his Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia debut in April this year.

The SS14 collection, in leather, organza and silk, was inspired by androids, so no surprise that that’s the theme picked up by Kerr for the campaign, which was shot at Bondi and stars Amy Finlayson as a fembot.

Keating himself also make a cameo, as Finlayson’s cyborg sidekick – an amusing homage, it seems, to Alexandra Tynan’s iconic mid 1960s Cybermen costumes for cult British sci-fi series Dr Who.
