Evelyn Rose, Helena Mitchell - and a dire wolf - shot by Brandon Harman
As part of our NZFW AW14 model showcards series, Frockwriter mentioned that 16 year-old Auckland-ites Helena Mitchell and Evelyn Rose were among the new faces who will be making their debuts at the event in just over a week’s time.
Scouted and repped by Red 11 Models – the same agency that springboarded Holly Rose Emery at last year’s NZFW – both have a cool ‘indie’ girl vibe. Red 11 is touting Mitchell as a Kiwi Julia Nobis. Rose looks a little like Abbey Lee Kershaw.
Below is a test shoot that was recently commissioned by Red 11 Models starring both girls, shot by American photographer Brandon Harman and styled by the supremely-talented Thistle Brown. Highres supplied directly to Frockwriter by Red 11.
We first met Brown two years ago, when he went by the name Duncan Lamont Brown and was studying textile design at the Auckland University of Technology and also modelling. His Margiela-Meets Mickey Mouse styling really caught our eye in the audience of the World show on the final night.
We met up with Brown again at last year’s NZFW, where he was no longer a mere runway show spectator, but far more integrated into the fabric of the event proper – helping out as a stylist for, among other brands, Riddle Me This.
Great to see that next month, Brown is graduating to the NZFW schedule, with his work part of the “Underground” fashion installation on September 4th.
Brown is not just a stylist, he is also a fashion designer and textile innovator, with, quite clearly, a brilliant eye for colour – and witty graphics/prints.
He debuted his eponymous label – a collection of fluoro neoprene-fused knitwear – as part of the Arrange Collective group show at his Flagship Studios home/workspace back in October 2012. One of the pieces managed to find its way into US Vogue.
Let’s wait see what the next step of Brown’s runway evolution will be: Sydney, London or New York?
